We are often asked, which is better, RoRo (Roll On Roll Off) or containerised, in our view there is very little to chose between them, RoRo is quicker and slightly cheaper, the disadvantage is that there must be nothing left in the vehicles at any time. The port authorities use the rule that there should be nothing more inside the car than what was in it when it was sold new.

Containerised shipping has become very competitive especially out of Newark, Charleston and Houston, as we do not unload at the quay side in the UK, but trunk the containers to a secure location, where the vehicle is held pending customs clearance,

Generally all RoRo imports from the States will arrive at Southampton, we can under special request arrange from certain port for RoRo shipments to go into Liverpool, the sailings are not quite as frequent.

With containerised there are two main methods, Single Container hire in either 20 or 40 foot containers, or shared containers. Containerised shipments generally arrive at Southampton or Felixstowe. We are seeing more and more use of The London Gateway, but as always it is the shipping lines that dictate the arrival port.

To register your vehicle you will require a NOVA (Notice of Vehicle Arrival) from HMRC, we make these arrangements on your behalf.
