Hopefully this page will help determine the best place to import a car, just hover over the red numbers on the map and it will pop up with a brief description of what that port can do.

We are often asked, which is better, RoRo (Roll On Roll Off) or containerised, in our view there is very little to chose between them, RoRo is quicker and slightly cheaper, the disadvantage is that there must be nothing left in the vehicles at any time. The port authorities use the rule that there should be nothing more inside the car than what was in it when it was sold new.

Containerised shipping has become very competitive especially out of Newark, Charleston and Houston, as we do not unload at the quay side in the UK, but trunk the containers to a secure location, where the vehicle is held pending customs clearance,

Generally all RoRo imports from the States will arrive at Southampton, we can under special request arrange from certain port for RoRo shipments to go into Liverpool, the sailings are not quite as frequent.

With containerised there are two main methods, Single Container hire in either 20 or 40 foot containers, or shared containers. Containerised shipments generally arrive at Southampton or Felixstowe. We are seeing more and more use of The London Gateway, but as always it is the shipping lines that dictate the arrival port.

When your vehicle is about to arrive at the port, you will be advised of the anticipated arrival date and assistance will be provided to make the customs clearance and unloading of your vehicle painless.

To register your vehicle you will require a NOVA (Notice of Vehicle Arrival) from HMRC, we make these arrangements on your behalf.

Once your vehicle clears customs, we can arrange the collection of your vehicle from the docks and delivery to your home via our secure delivery trunking service.

If any of our clients require an inspection completed on their vehicle we will be happy to provide details of companies who can do this for a very modest fee, we believe it is better to do that rather than try and make a profit from our clients for this service.

Many Countries have their own customs procedures, so if you are unsure, then have a look at this helpful link for Non UK Customs.

Read all about what our clients have sent us concerning their imports, of particular interest is the fascinating article from Rod Fraser concerning his 1929 Studebaker, which you can read about "here"

Don't forget to view images of some of the fantastic cars that we have imported by clicking here. However we are uploading regularly imports to our face book page goldenchariotsltd

There are occasions when we feel that we have to pull out all the stops to make things happen, just such a case arose with one of the famous "Christine" Replica 58 Plymouths and we were asked to write a little page about it all, so hopefully you will enjoy reading the following: - "Dean Johnson's Import"
